- The school board accepted with regret the resignation of Randy Swartzendruber, who has worked as a bus driver for the district for more than 34 years. He also ran the clock at sports games for many years. He’s been a wonderful supporter of our district and student body.
- The board hired Nan Stalter as a part-time paraprofessional for Laker Elementary. She had retired as part of a parapro retirement incentive last school year. Her hours will be restricted by state law because she is a retiree from the district.
- The board also hired Sheila Yackle, another parapro who retired last school year as part of the incentive. She will return to the Laker Secondary School Media Center and she’ll work two days a week (her hours also will be restricted).
- The board hired Matt Varner as a paraprofessional for the secondary school. He substituted for Bernie Kolar last school year (Kolar ended up retiring at the end of the school year – another parapro to take the retirement incentive). Varner will supervise online learning and will assist students with upper level math (Algebra 2, calculus, etc.).
- Tami Krohn also was hired as a paraprofessional to fill in part of Yackle’s former position, but Krohn also will be assisting with student job placements and will be a liaison between district leaders and local business leaders. Krohn previously has filled in at the secondary school office.
- The board hired Kim Roughley as a special education paraprofessional for the secondary school.
- One-year contracts were approved by the board for the teacher and transportation groups. Each group will receive a one percent salary increase. The teacher group includes about 50 employees and the transportation group includes about nine employees. Paraprofessional and food service contracts are still in discussion.
